From leader of the pack to lone wolf, Gold Coast musician, Phil Barlow marks his new musical direction with the release of neo-folk/ soul song, In My Heart on 3 August with launches set for the Gold Coast, 18th August with Kate Leopold and Julie Hayes and Sunshine Coast, 14th September with Dan Horne.
With two albums and over 300 shows under his belt as frontman of blues rock outfit Phil Barlow and The Wolf, Phil is a seasoned performer and accomplished songwriter trading high energy festival performances for more intimate and captivating experiences where he reveals his most authentic self.
"There was a time when I could not sit still. My mind would race in search of something more and my heart was a mess because I was lost in intense waves of emotion as I tried to find my feet after a painful separation," said Phil.
"The wild and primitive nature of the band was an important and powerful expression of those feelings. It was a lot of fun too, playing to great crowds, getting a bit loose and feeling liberated!"
"In the middle of 2017 I went through a shift. I noticed I felt less connected to that music, that I wasn't living my truth anymore.
"Things needed to change for me; so I took old 'Rosie', my home and touring bus, to a remote Queensland property for a few weeks to disconnect from the world in order to reconnect with my true self.
"A whole world of words pouring out of me and new ways to express them - in music and poetry. In those three weeks, I felt my heart truly open for the first time in a long time, experiencing a major inner change where I discovered the strength of allowing life unfold."
Powerfully pairing the simplicity of raw vocals and acoustic guitar with dynamic layers of modern production, In My Heart marks the first taste of Phil Barlow’s musical evolution, which draws on varied influences and experiences to craft soulful music with authenticity and presence.
“The music and poetry I share are simply the outward expressions of this continually evolving and expanding mystery called life.
"It is my hope that in opening my heart to the world and sharing my most authentic self, that others are inspired to do the same."
Not only did Phil's extended period of solitude yield incredibly soulful new music, he also authored his first book, The Poetry Of Healing: Pain to Peace, which is due to be published at the end of August.
Phil Barlow's new single, In My Heart is out on all digital platforms Friday 3 August.
In My Heart will be launched on the Gold Coast, 18 August at Burleigh Masonic Lodge with Kate Leopold & Julie Hayes and Sunshine Coast 14 September with Dan Horne at Bison Bar, Nambour. Tickets on sale now at philbarlowmusic.com.
