CARAVANA SUN'S ANT BEARD MAKES WAVES WITH NEW SOLO PROJECT / by Kylie Cobb

An established musician in his own right, Caravãna Sun's popular bass player, Ant Beard is turning tides with the first single, Beneath The Waves from his new solo project launching at Australian Music Week in Sydney, 2 November.

Following the critically acclaimed Whale Song written and sung for Australian surf-rockers Caravãna Sun, Ant Beard returns to the piano for his most powerful work yet creating deep, moving soundscapes with expansive production, stirring vocals and ample space for the listener to dive into.

"I draw a huge amount of inspiration from the ocean and the solace the underwater world provides," says Ant, who is also a recreational free diver, "Beneath The Waves is about constantly returning to that space for healing - diving deeper and deeper, searching for the answers within.

"I also want to share a sonic ocean where people can end their day feeling connected to themselves and embraced by something bigger with the weight of the world lifted, even if for a little while, which is how I feel when I'm freediving."

Teaming up with Caravãna Sun bandmate and renowned trumpeter, Ken Allars to co-produce Beneath The Waves, Ant Beard's solo project uplifts and inspires as he cinematically dives through folk and soul with a modern production and performance that truly connects on a deep level.

A professional musician his entire adult life, Ant played his first show at just 15 years old and in the past six years alone has performed over 500 shows, toured Europe 6 times and released 3 studio albums with popular troubadours, Caravãna Sun.

Caravana Sun's Whale Song performed intimately by Ant Beard on his grandmother's 100-year-old piano by candle light, completely live.

"Caravãna Sun plays a huge part of my music life. We have so much fun playing explosive, high energy shows to huge festival crowds.

"But now that we have some space in our schedule, I've decided to go back to the source of my music passion, with my solo project focusing on the delicate sentiment of soulful songwriting, intimately pouring my heart out to audiences in beautiful spaces.

"I've always been someone who loves, feels and cries through music, and that's what these songs are about for me."

Beneath the Waves by Ant Beard is available on all digital outlets 2 November 2017, with pre-orders available from 26 October.

See Ant Beard showcase at Australian Music Week, 2 November, 7pm at St Andrew's Church Hall, Cronulla.
