FREAKS, BEATS AND AUSTRALIA'S FIRST FLOATING CIRCUS FEATURE IN FINAL BUSKERS LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT / by Tomika Steele

***FOR RELEASE 5 OCTOBER 2017***

Avast ye! Australia’s first ever floating circus will barge on in to Currumbin Creek on 14 and 15th October, with Buskers by the Creek organisers today announcing their bold move to include on-water lira, acrobatic and theatrical fire performances as part of their entertainment program.

Expecting crowds of over 20,000, today's announcement takes the country's largest busking lineup to a massive 300 performers with sideshow celebrity Space Cowboy's Guinness World Record attempt for 'Longest duration balancing a running lawnmower on the chin'Australia's beloved "acro-brat", AD-DJ, Norway's hilarious 'bendy clown' Captain Frodo, mystical mime artist Agnes The Witch and Chinese pole acrobat Le Bouy all bringing something colourful, quirky and a little off-the-wall to the program.

With music being a major component of the two day event, a swag of top notch musicians will also be lining the foreshore including world renowned street musician, Tristan O’Meara, who is coming out of hiding for Buskers by the Creek due to popular demand after hanging his busking hat twelve months ago; as well as X-Factor starlets The Dennis Sisters, alternative rock duo Silk ‘n Oak and roots and reggae outfit Mapstone, to name but a few.

"The exotic and exhilarating displays of dance, music, magic, theatre, acrobatics, clowning and more create a thrilling atmosphere where no-one really knows what will happen next," said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate of the busking festival.

In line with the festival's Shipwrecked theme, stages include the 'Swashbuckling Seadog', 'Redbeards Howl' and 'The Salty Plank',  with local favourite NightQuarter Bar masquerading as the infamous 'Black Pearl'.

Returning for its fourth year this October, Buskers by the Creek is a free, family-friendly weekend of creekside fun celebrating the true art of busking, so start collecting your coins as performers are paid solely by their tips!

Buskers by the Creek kicks off with its annual 18+ side-street event, “Battle of the Buskers” at the Currumbin Pub on Friday 13th October, which sees the festival's top emerging talent facing it off in the ultimate showdown of busking brilliance.

T he son of a famous Norse magician, Captain Frodo has graced the stage since he was four, beginning his stage life in The Great Santini’s Magic Show, in Norway. Born with hyper mobile joints, Frodo possesses an utterly beguiling charm, and is famed the world over for bending, contorting and manipulating his body into shapes that are as astonishing as they are unnatural. You will never look at a tennis racket, much less a baked-bean tin, the same way again. Turning his deformity into an art, Frodo has performed with the Kamikaze Freakshow, the Modern Primitives, the Happy Sideshow and Circus Oz to name a few. He also performs his own full length solo shows for both adult and family audiences. Captain Frodo’s brand of illuminated showmanship is both hysterically funny and surprisingly moving.
