Following a successful Adelaide Fringe Festival season, Stephen Dorrington, the tradie-by-day, singer-songwriter-thespian-by-night, is launching his new EP, 1987, 24 February at New Globe Theatre.
The 1987 Launch will be a theatrical rock show of epic proportions offering four cracking local bands, including Ellie Jane and the Forces of Destiny, Olivia Ruth and Conspiracy of One, with Dorrington's headline set featuring the Candy Shop Girls, a choir and other surprise guest appearances.
From big theatrical numbers to no frills Rock 'N' Roll, Dorrington's show strikes a chord across the board with his funny banter, honest lyrics and damn good tunes making this launch a must for anyone that likes their rock served with a side of showmanship.
Engaging and entertaining, Dorrington is "dashing, delightful and definitely a talent to watch," said Meredith Walker of Blue Curtains.
With his last creative endeavour, 'Pubaret' earning critical acclaim at Adelaide and Melbourne Fringe Festivals, Dorrington’s anticipated 1987 Launch will be nothing short of entertaining.
"The show is basically me going all out," said Dorrington, "I've got an attitude of if I want to do it I'll make it work! A choir, 5 dancers, back up singers, 4 acts, cello, violin, guest singers, you name it. Basically, it's my party and I'll rock if I want to!”
An artist in the truest sense of the word, he’s worked with jazz legend, James Morrisson, and had his music praised as “worthy of instant airplay” by Mouthzoff Magazine. It’s no surprise then that his upcoming record, 1987, has already been approved for national radio airplay.
“1987 is an eclectic mix of influences. I love that it can go from solid rock, to an intimate ballad," said Dorrington, "Turn The Lights Down is edgy and suggestive, Dr sugar is a wild card. And Just ACE harnesses a breakthrough Powderfinger (Double Allergic) kind of sound. I actually played Ian Haugs guitar on that track!"
